Summary

Be on the front lines of animal health and operational excellence. The Poultry Health Technician provides hands-on field support by conducting vaccinations, collecting and testing samples, and delivering critical supplies to support live operations. This role plays a vital part in monitoring flock health and ensuring consistent adherence to safety, biosecurity, food safety, and poultry welfare standards. Through accurate testing, field expertise, and strong attention to detail, the Blood Tester Technician helps protect animal well-being and supports the success of our production programs.

 

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:30am - 3:00pm

 

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Pick up vaccines and supplies as needed for daily activities and coordinate vaccine inventory and its usage.
  • Properly handle, store, mix, administer and dispose of vaccines in prescribed manner.
  • Assess management and health of flock before vaccination.  Following assessment, determine if flock performance would require vaccination at that time or deferred to later. Record and document findings.
  • Follow all prescribed SOPs for all job tasks which include the following, but are not limited to:
    • Blood Sample Collection
    • Vaccine Administration
    • Salmonella Swabbing
    • Water Sampling
    • Health Monitoring
  • Work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Work in a professional and courteous manner always upholding professional and positive work image for self and the company.
  • Comply with and follow company requirements regarding safety, biosecurity, food safety, and poultry welfare programs and policies always.
  • Operates company vehicle and equipment in a safe manner, complying with the company, state and federal requirements/policies and use only for work related purposes, always.
  • Maintains a safe working environment and wears proper Personal Protective Equipment always required.

 

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver's license; certified copy of state driver's record for the past five (5) years required before being employed.
  • Ability to complete required documentation.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems at a functional level.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement modern processes and techniques and quality improvement processes.
  • Knowledge of and ability to provide strong customer orientation.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization, including producers, and a commitment to excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability, knowledge and commitment to put safety above everything else while achieving established goals.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Reading, writing and math skills.

 

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

  • Exposure to all seasonal weather conditions.
  • Exposure to a significant amount of airborne dust, feathers, manure ammonia gas up to 20 ppm and humidity up to 100%.
  • Exposure to chemicals, vaccines, and medications, to be covered in SDS and hazardous communications training. 
  • Capability to walk through mud, manure, dirt, grass, metal grating, and concrete surfaces (both wet and dry) while performing considerably bending, twisting, stooping, and lifting, as well as carrying loads of up to 75 pounds over long distances daily.
  • To cross up/over 30” slats and stoops.
