Summary

 

Using a deep understanding of the Niman Ranch pig program, the Senior Manager of Business Development develop plans to recruit all phases of compliant Niman Ranch hog production to meet or exceed yearly operating plans.  Assist Niman Ranch Field Agents in developing leads as well as organically curate a list of potential farmers.  This position reports to the Vice President of Live Hog Operations for Perdue Specialty Meats and will work primarily with other members of the Live Hog team but also cross functionally with other Niman Ranch departments.

 

The salary range for this position is $97,000 - $145,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications with annual bonus available (variable depending on performance).

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for all interested inbound producers.  Work to understand prospect’s prior experience, ability to produce hogs and fit for the program.  
  • Work with Field Agents and other Niman Ranch staff to develop and identify raw prospects, and ultimately actively recruit producers into the program.
  • Build relationships with internal Niman Ranch farmers to identify and lead internal growth opportunities. 
  • In concert with the Direct of Live Operations, develop and execute a plan to meet the yearly spaces need as outlined by Niman Ranch’s strategic plan. 
  • Assist the Weaned Pig Placement Manager in designing hog flow to maximize efficiencies.   
  • Manage incentive programs used for recruitment. 
  • Ensure first year producers are on track for success with follow-up farm visits.
  • Support the Live Team through leadership opportunities in company meetings.
  • Other tasks and activities as assigned. 

 

 

Minimum Education and Experience

  • A four year degree in Animal Science, Ag Business or related field; or 10+ years of swine industry experience. 
  • A strong working knowledge of the hog industry.
  • Farrow to finish hog production.
  • Niche market/High Animal Welfare standards.
  • Hog markets/contracting/swine operations financials.
  • A strong network of industry contacts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook, as well as ability to learn company database.
  • Strong communication skills via phone and email as well as in person.  Ability to effectively communicate with farmers, staff and senior management via written word and presentations. 

 

 

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

  • Ability to travel, expected travel will be about 20%. 
  • Availability to work outside of typical business hours, including weekends as necessary.
  •  May need to access files, supplies and equipment. 
  • Work activity is in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment.
