Summary
As a Smokehouse Operator in our Pet Treats department, you’ll play a key role in crafting high-quality snacks that bring joy to furry friends everywhere. You’ll operate and monitor smokehouse equipment, manage time and temperature controls, and support the careful process that gives our treats their irresistible flavor. If you enjoy working with machinery, have a knack for problem-solving, and take pride in producing something pets love, this role is the perfect opportunity to shine.
Schedule: Monday through periodic Sundays, 2:45pm-12:00am
Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Understand the overall goals and requirements of Department.
- Trained in chemical safety.
- Have knowledge of setup and operation of all equipment in the department.
- Load and unload trees in Smokehouses.
- Perform quality tests on products.
- Be aware of quality specifications of products.
- Keep work area clean.
- Test water activity in all products.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Minimum of 6 months of consecutive work history with one employer within the past 3 years in a comparable field.
Preferred Education and Experience
- High School or equivalent is beneficial but not required.
- Experience in a poultry processing/manufacturing environment.
- Some mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors
- Ability to work for 8 hours or more in a stationary position or maneuver on a wet, moist, dry, greasy, floors which may include medal or plastic grating surfaces with up to 4 hours in a single interval.
- Ability to work from various types of ladders and/or stairs.
- Exposure to and work in temperatures of less than -40 degrees and 75 degrees with ambient humidity.
- Noise exposure of 110 db, and light intensity range of 50-to-100-foot candles.
- Bending, twisting to assist in lifting up to 100 lbs, reaching, sitting, and grasping varies in repetitions, distance, degrees, angle, weight, heights, longest interval of time, objects grasped, and body positions depending upon the maintenance task required.
- Exposure to chlorinated water ( 50 ppm, Ammonia vapors ) 5 ppm, dry ice, caustic detergents, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, and other chemicals found in a poultry processing plant. Must use and / or wear protective and safety equipment required for the job.
All associates in this position are expected to:
- Wear all required PPE, including but not limited to eye protection, hearing protection, bump cap, slip resistant steel-toed boots.
- Become trained in LOTO and always follow procedures.
- Understand and follow all Safety policies and regulations to ensure a safe work environment.
