Summary

The Director of Demand Planning is responsible for leading the organization’s demand planning processes to ensure optimal alignment between market demand and finished good supply.  This role oversees the development and execution of statistical forecasts, cross functional collaboration with Sales, Marketing, Supply Planning, Finance and Operations and continuous improvement of forecast accuracy.

The salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $215,000.00 per year, based on experience and qualifications with annual bonus available (variable depending on performance).

This position is based at Corporate Headquarters in Salisbury, MD.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creation of accurate, data driven demand forecasts using statistical modeling and market intelligence.
  • Analyze historical sales data, market trends, and promotional impacts to improve forecast accuracy and bias.
  • Partner with Sales, Sales Planning, and Marketing to understand demand drivers and integrate business insights into the forecasts.  This includes the use of POS, customer forecasts, customer inventory, and other external data sources.  Ensure the highest levels of engagement across functions to enable seamless forecast consensus.
  • Maintain all master data elements of the demand planning system and ensure that master data rules and architecture are regularly reviewed to ensure they are fit for purpose.
  • Work closely with Supply Planning to ensure that demand signals are accurately translated into supply plans as part of the monthly S&OP process.  Act as the Step 2 (Demand Review) lead in the S&OP process.
  • Defines roles, allocates resources, manages performance, and develops talent within the demand planning team to achieve strategic business objectives and KPIs. Responsible for providing guidance and leadership, attracting and developing high-performing employees, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with IT and Data teams to enhance planning systems, analytics and reporting tools.  Incorporate external data sources such as customer forecast and syndicated data into overall forecast process.  Ensure that the company has the tools and systems that support the most accurate forecast possible, including maximizing the use of AI and other advanced technologies.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPI’s) such as forecast accuracy, bias and OFR.  Lead initiatives to improve forecasting processes, planning tools, and data accuracy throughout the S&OE process.  Act as the demand lead in the S&OE process.

Minimum Education and Experience

Required: Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, Statistics, or Math and 8+ years of work experience at a consumer packaged goods manufacturer.

 

The Ideal Candidate will also have:

  • Excellent communication skills (skills in highlighting issues, making recommendations and presenting results to peers and senior management).
  • High numerical and analytical skills. 
  • Sound business and industry experience essential. 
  • Knowledge of production planning and optimizing within constraints. 

 

PREFERRED:  MBA; APIC’s Credentials – CPIM, CRM or CSCP; IBF (Institute of Business Forecasting Credentials)

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
  • May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
  • May need to access files, supplies and equipment. 
  • Work activity is in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment
