Position Summary
The New Hire Trainer is responsible for training, coaching and assessing associates directly on the production floor to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and food safety requirements. The Trainer demonstrates correct procedures, verifies associate competency, and reinforces proper behaviors related to food safety, sanitation, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
On-the-Job Training
- Train new hires and existing associates on sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs) for tasks in assigned work areas.
- Follow Perdue’s Performance Based Training Model to Explain, Demonstrate and Coach associates on how to perform each job task to standard.
- Ensure trainees understand why each step matters for food safety and product quality.
- Tailor approach to each associate based on their preferred learning style(s).
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Train associates on the application of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and sanitation standards for the job tasks in their area of responsibility.
- Reinforce associate safety standards that apply to the task.
- Reinforce compliance with regulatory requirements from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
- Ensure trainees understand contamination risks, allergen control, and hygienic practices.
- Immediately address unsafe or non-compliant behaviors.
Skill Certification
- When associates indicate that they are competent to perform a task to standard, conduct an observational assessment certify competency.
- The basis for the hands-on assessment will be the SSOP and any additional knowledge checks to confirm understanding and/or the importance of performing the task to standard.
- Complete any required training checklists and documentation
- Sign off associate once they demonstrate proficiency.
- Recommend additional coaching when standards are not met
Coaching & Performance Support
- Provide real-time feedback to associate being assessed.
- Reinforce safe work practices and proper ergonomics.
- Assist employees in troubleshooting process or equipment issues, that are outside of the scope of the SSOP.
- Require adherence to safety, productivity and quality standards
Documentation & Recordkeeping
- Maintain accurate training records for all associates in your area of responsibility.
- Report training completion and skill gaps to supervisors.
- Serve as the process owner/subject matter expert for SSOPs in your area of responsibility
Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring training gaps or process issues.
- Suggest improvements to SSOPs, job aids, and training materials.
- Serve as the subject matter expert to support updates to SSOPs (by SOP Developer) and job aids/training materials (by Instructional Designer or qualified associate)
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma (min)
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in food manufacturing, processing, packaging or plant sanitation operations.
