Summary

Perdue Farms is hiring a Safety Supervisor - 3rd Shift to support our Dillon, SC location. The Safety Supervisor position is responsible for leading the plant’s safety functions during the off-shift or for a designated portion of a complex’s operations, under the direction of the complex safety & security manager. The position will supervise the safety department’s regular functions during off-shift or as designated as well as other duties such as new associate safety orientation and ramp-in process, on-the-job safety training including Job Safety Analyses; safety inspections of departments or assets & equipment, supervising the department safety rep program, hazard review and various training duties.  

 

Typical hours are 10:00pm - 8:00am.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide on-the-job training and follow-up on hazardous communication, safety, ergonomics, and other subjects with associates throughout the facility. This includes new associate orientation (whether directly hired or through a temp agency) as well as Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Educate facility associates, primarily salaried leaders, on safety principals and provide leadership, technical advice, and support to initiatives and projects which enhance safe efficient high-quality operations.
  • Conduct daily JSA audits and report findings to safety and operations teams along with corrective actions and re-training that is needed.
  • Assist Safety & Security (S&S) Manager in interviewing associates and gathering information on incidents and near misses and completed root cause analysis.
  • Attend and provide safety perspective for safety meetings, PSM meetings or any other safety-related meetings that occur.
  • Assist the S&S Manager in responding to associates needs and concerns for safety issues as they arise.
  • Assist the S&S Manager by taking & posting meeting notes for the safety committee meetings.
  • Maintain oversight and training for operational safety leads (OSL) and safety trainers on day and night Shift.
  • Assist in Corp Safety Audit and safety related documentation.
  • Support the site security contractors and initiatives.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the S&S Manager or Corp Safety

 

Minimum Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or Occupational Health & Safety from an accredited college or university program; or, 3-5-years work experience in operational safety within Perdue Farms’ industrial safety organization and current enrollment in an EH&S or safety related degree program.

Preferred Experience

  • The above requirements, plus a safety professional certification or 2-5 years experiences within manufacturing functioning as a safety manager.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • This position operates in a climate controlled office environment.
  • Must be able to communicate on the telephone and use standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to move freely throughout the facility. 
  • Must be able to travel to remote Company and customer locations for audits and training.

When in plant environment:

  • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
  • May be exposed to temperatures of -10 degree to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
  • May handle product 0 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
  • May be exposed to all chemicals found in poultry, food and processing plant.
  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company
