Summary

Play a critical role in delivering healthy, high-quality chicks that support the success of Perdue Farms growers. As a Hatchery Vaccine Mixer, you will oversee the preparation, mixing, and administration of vaccines for in-ovo and day-one spray vaccination processes, ensuring accuracy, quality, and vaccine effectiveness. You will partner closely with hatchery leadership, processing teams, veterinarians, and vaccine suppliers to support best practices, maintain inventory and equipment, and drive operational excellence. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented team member who thrives in a fast-paced production environment and is passionate about animal health, quality, and continuous improvement.

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 4:30am - 4:30pm (Wednesday and Friday depending on business needs).

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day hatchery vaccine mixing, preparation, cleanup, and laboratory care for all tasks associated with chick processing.
• Work closely with vaccine companies to incorporate practices that encourage optimal performance results.
• Manage vaccine inventory.
• Participate in performance evaluations related to vaccine processes.
• Maintain vaccination equipment and ensure proper upkeep.
• Work closely with hatchery management and processing leads to ensure best practices and results during chick processing.
• Perform all duties assigned by management in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with hatchery and company standard operating procedures.
• Foster teamwork, cooperation, and positive morale.
• Guide processing personnel on starting and stopping chick lines based on vaccine preparation timing.
• Make decisions that protect vaccine efficacy and bird health.
• Maintain accurate vaccine inventory records.
• Communicate inventory replenishment needs to management to ensure adequate supplies are maintained.
• Communicate and follow direction from management, company veterinarians, their representatives, and vaccine suppliers.

Minimum Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write.
• Ability to perform basic math and maintain accurate records.
• Ability to stay on task, manage time effectively, and follow directions.
• Maintain annual vaccine mixer certification.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Ability to speak English and Spanish.
• Background in broiler hatchery operations.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

• Work in an environment that includes standing and moving in an upright position on wet, dry, and frequently slippery concrete floors for up to 4 hours at a time.
• Lift overhead and control up to 35 lbs. to a height of approximately 84 inches.
• Work in temperatures ranging from less than 32° to 101.25° with ambient conditions and up to 100% humidity.
• Work for extended periods of up to 2 hours in temperatures ranging from 99° to 101° with approximately 82% humidity.
• Work in noise levels ranging from less than 50 dB to greater than 110 dB.
• Work in lighting levels ranging from less than 50 to 75-100 foot-candles.
• Bend, twist, lift, and grasp containers weighing up to 35 lbs. at intervals of up to 10 times per minute with maximum forward angles of 30-60 degrees.
• Squat, lift, carry, and transport weights up to 35 lbs. while walking distances of 10-20 feet.
• Work around chlorinated water, caustic detergents, lubricating oils, poultry vaccines, and other chemicals identified in hatchery safety documentation.
• Wear and use personal protective equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures and company directives.
