Summary
Help drive the success of our farm operations by ensuring equipment, facilities, and critical systems remain safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance. As a Sow Farm Maintenance Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the production of healthy pigs through preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, and daily operational support. You will help ensure animals receive proper feed, water, ventilation, and bedding while maintaining compliance with all farm protocols and guidelines. This role is ideal for a hands-on, safety-focused professional who enjoys solving problems, working with equipment, and contributing to a team-oriented environment where every day has a direct impact on animal care and farm performance.
Schedule: Apr/Oct – 5am, Nov/Dec – 6:30am, Dec/Mar – 7am
Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining farm infrastructure, including huts, shelters, hoops, buildings, and equipment.
- Safely and efficiently operate farm tractors, loaders, skid steers, feed mixers, manure spreaders, mowers, tillage equipment, and straw equipment.
- Check, prepare, and maintain equipment prior to use.
- Keep accurate service records on all equipment.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly appearance of the entire farm.
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining the water system.
- Assist in making seasonally appropriate repairs and adjustments to gestation tanks, farrowing huts, wallow plumbing, watering equipment, and water systems.
- Protect the health and safety of staff and promote the humane treatment of animals.
- Ensure all animal pens and handling facilities are in good working order and are routinely cleaned.
- Conserve farm resources, including supplies, equipment, and time.
- Promote cooperation and contribute to adequate staffing.
- Communicate openly and freely with others.
- Notify management of any problems, questions, or concerns.
- Perform other duties as assigned, requested, or directed by management or supervisors.
- Develop daily and weekly work schedules for tasks that need to be completed.
- Organize, prioritize, and manage time to maximize quality and efficiency of work.
- Serve as a positive example in attitude, respect, honesty, integrity, and work ethic.
- Promote cooperation within and across departments through staff and equipment sharing.
Minimum Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with farm equipment, performing maintenance, welding, and related activities.
- Ability to lead by example.
- Ability to solve problems, think critically, remain goal-oriented, and work as a team player.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Work in a farm environment with exposure to equipment, animals, and varying weather conditions.
