Summary

Make a direct impact on animal health and flock performance. As a Poultry Testing Technician, you will play a key role in supporting poultry health programs by collecting and testing blood samples, monitoring flock health, and maintaining accurate health records. Your work will help identify potential health concerns, support animal well-being, and contribute to the overall success of farm operations. In this hands-on role, you will collaborate with farm managers, veterinarians, and animal health professionals while following industry-leading biosecurity, safety, and animal welfare practices. Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Pick up vaccines and supplies as needed for daily activities and coordinate vaccine inventory and usage.
• Properly handle, store, mix, administer, and dispose of vaccines in the prescribed manner.
• Assess flock management and health before vaccination.
• Determine whether flock performance requires vaccination at that time or should be deferred to a later date following assessment.
• Record and document findings.
• Follow all prescribed standard operating procedures for job tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Collect blood samples.
  • Administer vaccines.
  • Perform Salmonella swabbing.
  • Collect water samples.
  • Monitor flock health.
• Collect blood samples from poultry safely and efficiently.
• Perform routine blood testing and diagnostic procedures according to established protocols.
• Identify and report unusual or abnormal test results.
• Maintain accurate records of samples, test results, and flock health information.
• Properly label, handle, store, and dispose of samples and testing materials.
• Follow all farm biosecurity, sanitation, animal welfare, and safety procedures.
• Work closely with farm managers, veterinarians, and animal health personnel.
• Assist with additional flock health monitoring and testing as needed.
• Keep testing equipment and work areas clean, organized, and properly maintained.
• Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when recording farm and laboratory information.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Maintain a professional and courteous manner while upholding a positive professional image for self and the company.
• Comply with company requirements regarding safety, biosecurity, food safety, and poultry welfare programs and policies.
• Operate company vehicles and equipment safely in compliance with company, state, and federal requirements and policies and use them only for work-related purposes.
• Maintain a safe working environment and wear proper personal protective equipment.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Ability to complete required documentation.
• Ability to analyze and resolve problems at a functional level.
• Knowledge of and ability to implement modern processes, techniques, and quality improvement processes.
• Knowledge of and ability to provide strong customer orientation.
• Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization, including producers, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability, knowledge, and commitment to put safety above everything else while achieving established goals.
• Comfortable handling poultry and collecting blood samples.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.
• Good record-keeping and basic computer skills.
• Reliable attendance and ability to work independently.
• Ability to work in a farm environment and perform repetitive tasks.
• Willingness to follow strict biosecurity and sanitation procedures.
• Must have a valid driver's license and provide a certified copy of the state driving record for the past 5 years before employment.

Preferred Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience with poultry, livestock, veterinary work, laboratory testing, or animal health.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

• Exposure to all seasonal weather conditions.
• Exposure to airborne dust, feathers, manure, ammonia gas up to 20 ppm, and humidity up to 100%.
• Exposure to chemicals, vaccines, and medications as covered in Safety Data Sheet and hazardous communication training.
• Capability to walk through mud, manure, dirt, grass, metal grating, and concrete surfaces, both wet and dry, while frequently bending, twisting, stooping, lifting, and carrying loads up to 75 pounds over long distances daily.
• Ability to cross over 30-inch slats and stoop.
